Just saw this over at LifeHacker and looks interesting. Have been using LogMeIn but still trying to find something that’s light-weight enough to ask a customer to install for remote desktop support. Shall give it a whirl later.

Attended last night’s Microsoft MSDN Connection and was rather amazed at the last session when Joeie Oon started his demo of application virtualization using SoftGrid. I’ve been using Virtual PC for most of development work as it helps especially with testing and development scenarios. But I think SoftGrid as a deployment solution for software that we develop could be pretty interesting? No more complaints about incompatibilities with different components etc since the applications are isolated. Also, licensing issues could be resolved since access seems tied to Active Directory. Very cool demo! Apparently the server is free? and each client agent at a fixed price.

Chewy also did a quick demo of Windows Home Server which reminded me I’ll need to burn the copy of Windows Home Server sitting in the download folder and do an installation on the server box.

Hoorah! I’ve been a little busy past couple of weeks and didn’t notice the invite till today! (the invite was in my inbox since 9th March!). Looks like my wish of getting into the program got fulfilled. Gotta find a box to try this out soon.

I wasn’t aware that there was such an effort going on and must say that its a great start. Let’s hope there will be more awareness on using Joomla! for building great web sites in Singapore!

Being a user of flickr, I’ve been following the apps that tie in to the service. Nostalgia is definitely interesting as it showcases the power of .Net WPF and a web api like Flickr.
Nostalgia allows you to search flickr remotely and create local sets from the photos you discover. It also supports local photo management and synchronizes to your flickr account, allowing you to update your online photos as well.

Just had a quick test drive of LogMeIn Free and must say I’m highly impressed with the product. The ease in which remote control of another pc is setup makes it a very effective tool for support issues.

Interesting article on management of Geeks.. I’m sure most people have had to deal with more technically inclined people at one time or another. I can identify and agree to most points made in the interview.
If you don’t want to lose your geeks, you have to find a way to give them promotions without turning them into managers. Most of them are not going to make very good executives — and, in fact, most of them would probably turn out to be terrible managers. But you need to give them a forward career path, you need to give them recognition, and you need to give them more money.

I’ve been using Mindmaps for pretty much anything that requires recording (meeting minutes, project information, etc). My favorite program is MindJet‘s MindManager. The only real feature I would see lacking is the lack of revision control and colloborative functions to make it easier to share maps with co-workers. Naturally the news of Mindomo’s beta was exciting news since it would make sharing of maps much easier. Think if this could be integrated into Google Apps would make it even more compelling!
